Planting a Tree

During the summer of 2003 we had more than our fair share of storms at the Achlhof. The worst ones hit us in August, the banks of the Weißache stream broke and the ferocity of the torrents and floodwaters tore away large chunks of land and with that and the very strong winds many trees were lost.

Contractors spent the whole of November installing erosion protection along the banks of our stream.

These works have been carried out in such a manner that the natural beauty of the Weißache has not been impaired but the works have also ensured that the banks of the stream are now protected in the event of future floods.

Despite the success of these works it is still plain to see that a lot of trees are still missing around the Achlhof. …….in fact we have enough timber for fuel for many winters to come.

Therefore, I have decided that every child that comes to visit the Achlhof can have the opportunity of planting its own tree. I have set up a small tree nursery with various species of trees where the children can pick out their own tree.

What do we need to do?

First of all a tree is picked from the nursery and a personnel plaque made of wood is prepared. On this plaque, the child’s name is written using an indelible marker or a branding iron. A suitable place will then be chosen for the tree and it will then be carefully planted.

N.B.  If someone wishes to bring along their own small tree for planting then I will be more than happy to plant this for them.
